Ken McCarthy can help slap the cuffs on a criminal with some key strokes on a computer keyboard or a few clicks of a mouse.
He is a cyber detective trolling computers, cell phones and other personal electronic devices seized by police as evidence in crimes such as drug-dealing, child pornography, credit card fraud and identity theft.
"It's actually the wave of the future here," Police Chief Michael P. Gould Sr. said of the police department's computer forensics lab, which McCarthy designed and works.
Gould obtained a grant to purchase about $50,000 worth of computer equipment and electronics for the recently opened lab in the detective's offices.
