Motorola Inc. has accused former chief financial officer Paul Liska, who is suing the company for retaliatory discharge, of destroying evidence from his work-issued laptop.
The Schaumburg-based technology company filed a motion in Cook County Circuit Court on Wednesday morning asking for "sanctions" against Liska. Motorola is seeking to have the judge order Liska to turn over all relevant computers, digital storage devices and documents. The company requested permission to examine any computers Liska accessed in the last year and also asked for an evidentiary hearing on the matter.
Liska sued Motorola on Feb. 20, saying he was fired because he refused to accept "unsubstantiated and misleading financial forecasts" for the company's flagship cell-phone division. Co-chief executive Greg Brown had told Liska he was being replaced as CFO one day after the executive made a presentation about the mobile devices unit at a meeting of the board of directors' audit and legal committee.
Motorola, for its part, said Liska had serious performance issues and orchestrated a scheme to portray himself as a whistleblower so he could seek a large settlement from his former employer.
